Activists of the Public Council under the management of forestry in the region appealed to the permanent deputy commission on ecology with a demand to prohibit cutting down the forest near Frankivsk - on the territory of the military forest farm. Yesterday, March 17, the environmental commission supported the appeal. It is planned to be considered at a session of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council.

The problem arose in the Tysmenytskyi district - the forest is being felled along the so-called "concrete road", the road that leads to the former military facilities in the forest near the villages of Maidan and Pavlivka. This area is operated by the military forest farm.

“For 10 kilometers from Ivano-Frankivsk, in the villages of Maidan and Nova Huta, forest felling is being carried out on an industrial scale,” said a representative of the public council, Petro Mateyko. - Residents of these villages have repeatedly complained to the regional forestry department. Oak, pine and white fir are cut down. The forest is cut down mostly along the "concrete block", which is a military object, because it is easier to take it out from there. The biggest indignation is that as a result of the community's attempts to stop felling - people turned to nature protection authorities - the forest began to be cut down even more intensively. And to all the activists' appeals to these bodies to stop the felling, they give us standard answers that these are planned fellings for the needs of the ATO. While such harvesting was stopped six months ago and is not being carried out at this time".

“We ask the deputies to go to the place with the activists,” activist Roman Ostrovsky addressed the commission. - You will see cuts along the concrete, the size of stadiums. And 10 m from the gate of the military unit, a breach was made in the fence and timber trucks are entering the territory".

The ecological commission of the regional council, taking into account this and previous appeals regarding the illegal, in the opinion of representatives of the communities of Kosiv and Bogorodchan districts, felling, decided to devote a separate meeting to the topic of forest preservation in Prykarpattia. They intend to consider this appeal in more detail. Until then, deputies will go to the place together with activists and journalists.
